On May 5th, Liberation Day is celebrated in the Netherlands. On this day, Liberation Day concerts are held throughout the country. Every year, the festivities are concluded with a light-classical music concert, the ‘Concert on the Amstel’ (the river that flows through Amsterdam). A floating stage is built on the water for the event.
United has been recording this unique event for years; it is broadcast live by Dutch broadcaster NOS.
Once again this year, thousands of people attended in boats and lined the quayside, enjoying this concert which the Dutch Queen traditionally attends along with several dignitaries. The Concert on the Amstel is the most viewed light classical concert on TV, with around a million viewers. For this job, United set OB14 up with 15 cameras, including three cranes (Scannercrane, Cascade crane and a Techno crane), 2 cameras set on furio dollies on rails, 2 wireless cameras (sailing and walking) and a topshot on a hothead, hanging from the roof of the stage. United Satellite Services HOL7 was used for the up and down link connection.
