The Hit for United

The Hit for United

Dutch broadcaster RTL 5 is looking for new singer-songwriter talent every Sunday evening in the programme The Hit. Well-known Dutch artists choose the songwriter who, in their opinion, has The Hit in their hands, and try to sing the song for the charts. United handles The Hit’s recording and post-production for producer BlazHoffski/Warner Bros. In United’s large studio at the Mediahaven in Amsterdam there are six ‘pitching rooms’, with a singer-songwriter and two cameras in each. In each episode, two artists each choose two songs, which they then record in the famous Wisseloord Studios infront of United ENGs. In the finale, each artist sings one of the songs live in pop venue De Vorstin. This recording creates a huge amount of image and sound material. With threefold direction, two sound engineers who shuffle the sound in each pitching room, editors who can switch cameras and a director, switch technician and assistant director who can switch on different tracks during recording, the job is kept well on course.

The material from the Mediahaven is sent directly to United’s Media Center in Hilversum via fiber optic for post-production work. Our sleek way of producing should have set a good example for The Hit in other countries.
